Optimize testing with windbreakers
MDT A/S has developed Windbreakers for dynamic flatwise testing of wind turbine blades to optimize the test environment and significantly reduce energy consumption.
Windbreakers are lightweight, transparent shells designed to enclose wind turbine blades, optimizing test conditions for more accurate, real-life simulations. The shells are manufactured in Kolding, Denmark, and are made in part with our own lightweight product, PreBeam®. These shells are engineered to improve the working environment by reducing wind and noise
Benefits of Windbreakers:
- Significantly reduced power consumption during testing.
- Quick installation on the blade.
- The transparent design allows for visual inspection of the blade without removing the Windbreakers.
- Easy to handle due to low weight.
- Modular design enables use in multiple tests (depending on load conditions).
- Built-in channel for cables.
- Simulation and prediction of expected lifespan minimize the risk of failure during testing.

3D print in test environments
At MDT A/S, large-scale 3D printing is used to produce customized solutions within renewable energy, such as:
